Premium Differentials a New Trend for Employers Trying to Save on Healthcare Costs; Sherwin-Williams, WellPoint, and Family Dollar Share Lessons Learned and Best Practices in Alere Wellbeing’s Upcoming Free Webinar

Seattle, Wash. (PRWEB) February 29, 2012

Alere Wellbeing (formerly Free & Clear) will be hosting the complimentary live webinar, Best Practices for Premium Differentials in Tobacco Cessation, on March 13 and March 20 at 11:00am PST. Clients Sherwin-Williams, WellPoint, and Family Dollar will present lessons learned and best practices for implementing a premium differential for smokers and smokeless tobacco users.

Tobacco use continues to be one of the most costly, deadly addictions in the U.S., and tobacco cessation remains the most cost-effective health benefit employers can provide. Yet at many organizations, human resources professionals find it is one thing to offer a proven tobacco cessation program, and quite another to see real results. The current trend among employers is to implement a premium differential – charging a higher premium for tobacco-using employers than non-tobacco users. This has the twofold benefit of financially motivating tobacco users to quit while helping employers reap immediate savings on healthcare: the average smoker costs his or her employer more than $ 7,000 per year in excess medical expenses and productivity losses.

“By the end of 2011, 40 percent of our client base offered a premium differential for smokers,” says Yuki Yang, Vice President of Client Services and in-house incentives expert at Alere Wellbeing. “Many companies approach us wanting our help to design and effectively implement a premium differential. This webinar will help companies learn best practices from the experience of those who have done it.”

Join Ms. Yang and a panel of human resource professionals from Sherwin-Williams, WellPoint, and Family Dollar as they share lessons learned and best practices. They’ll cover what a premium differential is, why one size does not fit all organizations, and how to plan, launch, and implement a premium differential at the worksite.

To register for the complimentary webinar on Tuesday, March 13 or Tuesday, March 20, visit Clear Insights at http://www.alerewellbeing.com.

John Legend talks Wake Up collaboration with The Roots

www.hardknock.tv Hard Knock Tv’s Nick Huff Barili caught up with John Legend to talk about the collaborative project he is putting out with The Roots called Wake Up! John says that the album concept came around the time of the presidential election. The idea was to cover some of the songs that came out around the Civil Rights Movement. He goes on to say that the music from the 60′s and 70′s is still very relevant to what is going on today comparing the War in Iraq to Vietnam and saying that the struggle and inequality in inner cities continues. Legend says that R&B today is all about Sex and glosses over the rest of humanity. With this album John and The Roots want to bring back the depth that is missing today. Interview contains clips from the first single from the project titled Wake Up Everybody, which features Common and Melanie Fiona and is a reinterpretation of HAROLD MELVIN & THE BLUENOTES! Please support good music and go buy the album! For Part 2 of this interview check out www.hardknock.tv

Video editor that supports direct webcam upload?

Question by Jos C.: Video editor that supports direct webcam upload?
I recently joined a vlog collaboration, and I’d like to use my web cam for the videos instead of using my regular camera and uploading it manually. It’d save a lot of hassle if I could just use my embedded web cam.But the only problem is that right now I have Windows Movie Maker on my Vista computer and it doesn’t support direct web cam recording… I can use my embedded microphone, but nothing else.Is there another free, non-virus downloadable program I can use?

Cooley Dickinson Adopts MedVentive Solution to Manage Risk Contracts

Cooley Dickinson Adopts MedVentive Solution to Manage Risk Contracts

Waltham, MA (PRWEB) January 24, 2012

Cooley Dickinson Physician Hospital Organization (CDPHO), the preferred managed care undertaking entity for all major health plans within Hampshire County, Massachusetts, has subscribed a three-year agreement to license MedVentive Risk Manager. With MedVentive’s suite of clinician-friendly, nonrational, web-based tools and technology, Cooley Dickinson will be capable to better prosecute physicians and attain population-broad breakthroughs in quality and cost improvement.

Cooley Dickinson chose MedVentive in order to manage a new Alternative Quality Contract (AQC) with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. The hospital had previously managed several adventured-based pay-for-performance (P4P) agreements in-house, but recognized that the AQC would require far more expertise and a more robust solution to be cost-effective. Hospital officials identified the MedVentive platform as the best solution in the industry.

“As we moved forward with our first global payment model, we needed a robust software system that could drive improvements in care quality and efficiency, in order to improve outcomes and ultimately reduce the cost of care,” said Norm Stachelek, Cooley Dickinson’s president and executive director. “We looked at several solutions, some of which involved custom applications and some of which came pre-defined, but MedVentive offered the best of both worlds. The MedVentive platform seemed battle-tested and steeped in real-world experience. The fact that MedVentive spent so much time developing this at the physician level spoke volumes.”

Developed under the principle that you cannot manage what you cannot measure, MedVentive Risk Manager is designed to analyze and improve the entire spectrum of cost and quality challenges – resource utilization, generic prescribing, physician efficiency and patient profiling, and more. MedVentive Risk Manager will provide a single clarifying view that will allow Cooley Dickinson to manage variations in care across its entire enterprise.

Cooley Dickinson will be using the MedVentive platform to manage healthcare for more than 25,000 patients. “We’re very pleased to assist Cooley Dickinson in implementing higher quality and more cost-effective healthcare,” commented Nancy Brown, chief growth officer for MedVentive. “Our experience as an at-risk provider network gives us a deep understanding of provider organizations and the changing healthcare environment. MedVentive is uniquely qualified to provide the risk management infrastructure necessary to be successful under Cooley Dickinson’s new contract model.”

About Cooley Dickinson

CDPHO is the preferred managed care contracted entity for all major health plans within Hampshire County, Massachusetts. The CDPHO is structured to provide a forum for participating providers to cooperating in the delivery of high quality, cost-efficacious health care to the community in an organized fashion. CDPHO offers efficiency in managed care contracting to its 300 participating physicians and Cooley Dickinson Hospital – a 140-bed acute care hospital that provides patient-centered healthcare services both at its main campus in Northampton, Massachusetts, and at satellite facilities in Amherst, Easthampton, Florence, Hadley, South Deerfield and Worthington.

About MedVentive

While healthcare was evolving the concept of an accountable care organization, MedVentive was busy operating as one. MedVentive was founded as the Provider Service Network (PSN) in 1997 by the CareGroup Healthcare System, an integrated, at-risk network of 4,500 physicians and eight hospitals that cared for more than 450,000 at-risk patients. The network included the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a teaching facility of Harvard Medical School.

Our origins as an ACO give MedVentive a deep understanding of provider organizations and the healthcare environment. Having been an at-risk provider network, MedVentive is uniquely qualified to support an organization’s transition from a fee-for-service payment environment to risk-based contracting, and provide the clinical integration/population management infrastructure necessary to be successful under this new model.
